The Name of Jesus

The correct spelling, usage and definition of Jesus’ name may be rather inconsequential to some. For others, it can be a great opportunity to gain insight into God’s character. This study can not only help us provide clarity into the linguistic context of the English bible but perhaps more importantly, it can help us understand the implications of his eternal name.

Have you ever heard a preacher use the name Jehoshua when referring to Jesus? (spelling may vary; Jehoshuah; Yahushua; Yhowshuwa; Yhowshua) Have you ever wondered why “Yhowshua” (Hebrew) was later translated to “Jesus” (derived from Greek)? What is the spiritual significance, and what do the many names and titles of our Lord God imply?

What anyone who researches this topic will find is that the 66 books that comprise the many variations of the Holy Bible were written in a time long before the English language had first begun to surface. English as we know it today did not exist during the times of the apostles. In fact, it did not first begin to surface until hundreds of years after the time of Christ. So many names… so many titles… Could there be something we are missing? Could there be a name above all names? Did you know the bible tells us Jesus has a name that no man has ever known? Let’s put aside the fact that Joshua, not Jesus, could have been a better rendering from the ancient texts. Could it also be possible there is an even greater flaw wherein modern Christianity is using His name inappropriately?
